The Republican tax overhaul signed by President Trump today is the Christmastime equivalent of offering the middle class a few sugar cookies but denying them the substance of a balanced meal.  Sure, the increases to the standard deduction and child tax credits will be appealing in the near term.  But they run out after eight years like the carbs in your holiday treats.  When it comes time to educate our children or care for parents in old age the trickle down economic policies of the GOP will leave the people who do the real work in this economy more hungry than before.  What the economy needs for long-term prosperity for all is support for education, infrastructure, and the environment that uniformly benefits all of America’s people.
